Arabica coffee beans

By far, Arabica coffee beans are the most popular coffee beans, accounting for about 60% of the world's coffee. Arabica coffee beans are considered delicious, but the downside of Arabica beans is that it is more difficult to grow. Therefore, the price of Arabica coffee beans is usually more expensive.

To grow Arabica coffee, it is necessary to ensure an altitude of about 1500m above sea level and a cool climate all year round. Arabica coffee varieties are also more susceptible to disease, with small foliage and mature tree height from 2.4m - 4.5m. Because of this, Arabica coffee grown in Vietnam is quite small compared to Robusta coffee.

What does Arabica coffee taste like?

Most gourmet coffee brands advertise that they use 100% Arabica beans. Why is this nut considered the highest quality nut?

Coffee Arabica is considered to be the highest quality with a mild sour taste mixed with less bitterness, passionate aroma. Arabica coffee after brewing will have a light brown color, clear like amber.

Classification of Arabica coffee beans

The special thing is that Arabica coffee, when grown in different geographical regions, has its own unique flavors. Common types of Arabica coffee beans include: Bourbon, Typica, Moka and Catimor.

In which, 3 varieties are considered primitive, are genetically important coffee varieties, almost not hybridized but kept the same strain so far: Bourbon, Typica, Moka.

It is because of being kept primitive that coffee trees are very susceptible to pests and diseases, with low productivity and today there are very few left in Vietnam due to economic inefficiency, so they are cut down.

Moka coffee variety originating from Yemen is a coffee plant with the most rigorous growing and harvesting conditions. Therefore, Moka coffee has the most delicious and attractive taste in the world. Currently, Moka coffee is only left in Cau Dat area, but the output is very small due to difficult farming conditions.

Catimor coffee variety was bred from 2 breeds Cattura and Timor. Therefore, Catimor is an Arabica coffee variety with good resistance to pests and diseases, easy to grow and high yield, while still ensuring the typical taste of Arabica.

Where to buy Arabica coffee?

Arabica coffee beans are widely sold, don't forget to refer to Arabica organic coffee beans at Huongmai Cafe.

Robusta coffee beans

The second most popular type of coffee bean is Robusta. This nut is native to sub-Saharan Africa and is now grown mainly in Africa and Indonesia. This is also a popular type of coffee bean in Vietnam because the coffee variety is quite suitable for the climate and soil of the Central Highlands. Robusta coffee production accounts for 90% of the country's coffee production. Robusta coffee has a high yield and low price, so it is purchased a lot to serve the enjoyment needs of the majority.

Robusta coffee beans are larger and rounder than other coffee beans. These Robusta seedlings usually grow much larger than Arabica trees, reaching 4.5-6m in height. Robusta beans are generally harder because they can grow at lower altitudes and are disease resistant.

What does Robusta coffee taste like?

Robusta coffee has a bitter taste that is almost burnt with a much higher caffeine content than Arabica beans. Robusta coffee after brewing will have a brown color. This type of coffee is very less popular in the European market, often used to produce instant coffee and in the food & beverage industry.

Classification of Robusta coffee beans

For coffee producers and traders, they will know these two Robusta varieties more than consumers:

Coffee Robusta (Purebred Robusta): Small seeds, firm texture, strong flavor, very strong taste, Robusta is less common.

High-yielding Robusta Coffee: The variety has been bred for generations to increase resistance to pests and diseases, and high yields. High-yielding Robusta has a strong flavor but the taste will be less intense than shared Robusta. This variety is often grown commercially to supply instant coffee companies.

Where to buy Robusta coffee beans?
