A little quiet, a little noisy, a little bit bitter and sweet... Slow and romantic, that's the art of enjoying standard coffee of Hanoians. Someone will say: "Hanoi people are so picky" but I think not, if ever "adventurous" with this unique culture in Hanoi's old quarter. This is one of the typical cultural features, imprinted in the subconscious of many generations of Vietnamese people.

One weekend afternoon, the summer rain quickly came and went, we walked through the old streets to find a hobby of Hanoians: enjoying coffee. Through the cafes of Hoan Kiem old town, I saw that it was full of people. Some people go to the shop alone - sitting alone with a cup of hot, fragrant coffee, some people go with friends - whispering everyday stories...

Enjoying coffee is no longer a luxury in Hanoi. As long as you have an affordable budget, you can have a hot brown or iced black, or more "premium" than egg coffee. That said, to see the problem is not in money, but depends on your own preferences, mood, of course, the weather and in a space you want to enjoy.

On hot summer days, you can drink a cup of "black", "ice" or "ice brown" coffee for mental relaxation and clarity. Wake up in any season, in autumn and winter, sip a hot cup of coffee to feel warmer.

If Saigon people like many different types of coffee, Hanoi "connoisseurs" of coffee are often only loyal to "rustic" coffee. "Moc" means that there is only one type of coffee bean, neither roasted nor roasted with butter, cocoa or added any other flavorings. Coffee is simply coffee.

There is a saying that every coffee lover in Hanoi knows: "Don't say it's talented, don't say it's delicious, don't say it's special, just pure coffee". Hanoi coffee is like Hanoians, no noise, no tastes, no hustle, just calm, simple but has "gut", has "quality".

Take a sip of black coffee at the old town coffee shops that we just mentioned, you will see the bold taste, bitter taste, aroma, burnt compliment and even a little pangolin that is very typical of coffee beans. All the essence is distilled in a cup of strong coffee.

Being a "rustic" coffee doesn't mean that all coffee shops are the same. If that was the case, Huongmai Cafe wouldn't have been... made into a coffee brand with its very own style, with bold Vietnamese traditions.

Old town coffee is unique because it contains elements of space, time, history and people. Just like in the old days, drinking wine had to look at the moon, and good coffee must have a beautiful view. Sitting on a wooden table and chairs that have been tarnished by time at an old coffee shop, looking through the door frame and seeing "the street is woven with looms, the road around the chessboard", even if you are alone with a glass of black stone, you will not feel lonely.

A simple coffee shop that "carries" a cultural life, a social habit, a "taste" to enjoy and a historical mark, perhaps only in Hanoi! A very different Hanoi through the lens of lovers of ancient features in the coffee culture of the capital's people. If you ever visit Hanoi, you should definitely not miss a place - a place that still retains the rustic features in the way of preparation, still nostalgic for the old features of nostalgic coffee.

Huongmai Cafe does not promise to be a place with a beautiful virtual living view like the cafes dedicated to young people now frequent. But here, we preserve the beauty of old Hanoi, where traditional coffee is deeply imprinted in the culture, in the subconscious of generations of the capital's people.

We hope that through this article, you will appreciate the beauty of Hanoi's culture, including old town coffee.
